BUBBLE by Kieran Hurley
“I was there you know. when we shut your places down. gender studies. social studies. the strongholds of your politically correct bullshit worldview. we shut them down. and I was there. and the news cameras were there. and the whole world was watching”
Bubble was streamed by 195,000 people worldwide and the script downloaded in 32 countries.
What happens when a male lecturer calls a female student a slut?
Bubble, set entirely on facebook and written partly in emoji, tracks the snowball of events following the moment a male lecturer calls a female student a slut. It explores freedom of speech in university communities and the nature of online debate.
We partnered with 6 universities across Europe to create a unique borderless piece of digital theatre that explores freedom of speech in the university community and the nature of online debate.
“a brilliant and unsettling piece of screen drama, which takes the idea of social media as an arena for dramatic writing to impressive new heights” the Scotsman
We want to say a huge thank you to the students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland who created the play in collaboration with Kieran Hurley.
